Welcome to CIGLOB, the International Center for Globalization and Development an independent, academically oriented, non-for-profit corporation based in Santiago, Chile.

CIGLOB is a place for producing new ideas and fresh approaches to deal with the main development problems facing our societies. The Center promotes analytical, independent and critical perspectives in its work towards a responsible capitalism that enables growth and wealth creation with inclusion, social justice and environmental sustainability. Our goal is to promote a more humane and equitable economy and society governed by a participative democracy. Please visit our thematic agenda and publications.

CIGLOB operates as an international network of associate members who have been invited for their academic, professional achievements, policy experience and commitment with international development both from an analytical and problem-solving perspective.

Dr Andrés Solimano is Founder and Chairman of the International Center for Globalization and Development (CIGLOB) and Director of the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences, Chile (FLASCO). Prior to this post, Dr Solimano was a Regional Advisor at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean and Director of the project on International Mobility of Talent with the United Nations University-World Institute of Economic Research (UNU-WIDER). Dr Solimano worked at the World Bank in Washington DC for 10 years, most notably as Country Director in the Country Management Department, for the Andean Countries (Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela), and Economic Advisor in the Macroeconomics and Growth Division, Economics Research Group. He also served as Executive Director for Chile and Ecuador at the Board of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), and Representative of Chile at the Donors Committee of the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) in Washington, D.C. Dr Solimano was the Chairman of the Programming Committee of the Board of Executive Directors of the IDB and holds a PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Dr. Solimano has edited several books and is also author of numerous articles on International Migration and Remittances, Political Economy, Savings, Investment and Economic Growth, Inequality, the Chilean Economy, Globalization, Economic Stabilization, Reform and Transition, and Labor Markets, published in professional journals and the press. His most recent published works, as well as International Migration in the Age of Globalization (2010), includeChile and the Neoliberal Trap: The Post-Pinochet Era(2010), Broken Borders: The International  Mobility of People and Elites in the Age of Globalization(2010) and TheInternational  Mobility of Talent: Types, Causes and Development Impact(2008).
